MaxdB's music...

Played guitar in a few little bands played in a 70's coverband, and loved drumming for fun later.
Raised the band 'Undertow' (later U-Tow), you'll find most songs in my music list.
I loved composing at home and then workin it out with the band, and the other members did contribute songs and their share.
special thanks to:
-Leen van Gijzen(voc. R.I.P.)
-Rodney Werleman(drums)
-Marcel Remmig(bass)
-Hugo Sipkes(git)
-Lawrence Payne(voc)

I really enjoyed doing all the recordings with my Yamaha 44-16 dig. recorder and my laptop.

All other songs are me and my PC, but that's another story,

i like composing, playing and recording, and love to have feedback of any kind, tnx in advance.

3-SoulsSweetJam

the intro is a piece i had on my mind for a long time, we went through that a few times and we improvised a little as you might notice :-) dont blame the bass player, i just go my way, he had to follow..

just the things you do when you have no singer for a while, you know, jamming and jamming..

you listen to the 'heart of U-Tow': drummer, bassplayer and me, one take, no tricks .

we were so happy then.., if i listen to this i get a good feeling again, hope you do too :)

Blanket Man

Actually my very first 'song'('93/'94), 4 track minidisc recording of a rehearsal, without vocalist yet, so i did vocals and additional guitars at home, with a lot of ping-pongin ofcourse

someone else wrote the lyrics, i'm not too happy with them, but i do wonder what native english speakin people think of them somehow..

it's about a homeless psychiatric guy(with a blanket ofcourse:P), i did see him walkin a lot too

to me it is a kind of 'innocent rock' song, wonder how it will be recieved for the song itself, not especially for the mixing issues

Can't u C

ok, lyrics and singin still suck, as this is only the next stage from my former upload:

http://forum.bandamp.com/Audio_Review/1919.html
(Not Finished Yet)

instruments are still the same, only less synths
but the mix is totally new, i'd like some reflection on that

i overdone the reverbs a few ton here and there (it didn't make the vocals better, i noticed)
isnt the bass a bit too loud?

still workin on the synths/piano mainly to get that right before the new takes, new lyrics and new singer(yet to be found!!)
a lot of doubt over the piano in the refrain..

well, that's all..

then added 'some' guitars afterwards just to find out what

Ever long

another U-ToW song
Mainly written by Lawrence Payne(singer)
We always enjoyed this song for its energy, I loved recording&mixing the whole piece too, a clear song to me, direct, in the face.., i hope

I play the right guitar, Hugo left

(just wanted to write this once he he... P)

EVERLONG (lyrics by Lawrence Payne)

How am I going to do it tomorrow?…
If I don’t know how to do it today?…
How am I going to ease the quarrels, baby…
…if I keep standing in my own way?…

My soul will search for truth until satisfied…
For it longs for the day to overcome…arise…I reach for the skies…

And how strong we are?…Your guess is as good as mine…
And how long we’ll stay?…It’s just a matter of Time to find…

…Sometimes our seeing looks more like deceiving…
I believe that you’re seeing it too…
Receiving a meaning…conceiving…concealing…
I see that you’re believing it too…

Everlong…don’t be gone…
Everlong…I’m waiting…for you…

If you really wanna be livin’ tomorrow…well, you could be like lovin’ today…
If you really wanna be loving’ tomorrow…than this could be your day!…
                                                 SOLO
Someone is seeing many beings believing…
I believe that you’re seeing it too…
The Quest seems endless ‘til you find…
Well, who was it that made our minds?…

Everlong… won’t be gone…
Everlong… will be waiting…

I await for us to see that what is greater beyond(our)belief…
A Beautiful place for you & me…The Fight’s allover…we’re Free!…

Fishy Wish

Just an 'old fashioned' rocksong.
main riff written by Hugo (look down under the band picture in photoalbum where i introduced them)
I was 'allowed' to do the solo and melodies ;)

Band did the rest ofcourse and it evolved to this song.

I especially like the lyrics, as we were talkin fun about a little goldfish in the big sea having his dreams/fears in life, we got the idea of life seen by a fish as a metaphor. Whitout going to deep, i think they make sense in a humoristic way :P

Hope you'll enjoy.., and don't go sour..

Max

FISHY WISH (lyrics by Lawrence Payne)

Rainbow-wish goldfish…on a pile…
…of rubbish, dying for a dip in the Nile…
A Cycle-concluding Smile…

Well, here’s a wave goodbye from me…Glad to have swum your Shiny Sea…
Here comes the Drought…Too dry for me!…

Should all go sour…My Hope won’t melt away…NO WAY!!!…

Floating is real pretty…’til you fall…
Like a Sea-scene you smelled before…Halfway…Inside out…
For every mile you swim a smile…
Forever drifting on the Tide…
Towards the hour…of the rising Sky Flower…

So, don’t go sour…Hope won’t be far away…

How long must a fish wait for its favorite dish?…
I’ll have no bones at all…
                    SOLO
Had a chat with the Sun & Seven Seas…
…to find out why we always disagree?…
Straight it out!…the Horizon shouts…
I’m sick of being caught in the middle!…

Should all go sour…Sweet Hope will be on its way!…
                    SOLO
How long must a fish lay on a Golden dish?…
With no bones at all…gone away…
Yes, I know…some fish must wait for their Fishy Wish…
Caviar Hors d’œuvres for all…

Frights

Again another U-Tow song :dead: .., a song about love, life and.. frights

Not totally became as I imagined when writing this one.
On one side I'm happy about the beautiful things the band added, on the other hand, it gets saturating in a way(to me), I can't point out whats wrong or missing or...?

I think it might be in the distorted guitar parts which are to much of the same....................i don't know, maybe you do?
(I also mixed Hugo's rhythm-distortion too loud a bit, but that hasn't anything to do with this I guess :P)

In the beginning(god spoke..) I added a third guitar part (the low '7' chords!), its slightly off here and there, but i liked the idea so i couldn't miss it anymore and left it for another time(which still has to come) to rerecord.

I played the clean intro, which is actually the way I played the whole song acoustic, (but left out some notes to break it), and the new third part, but Hugo did the great slide part and the solo!
(In the photoalbum you'll find a pic of the band, beneath it I introduced the band if your interested..)

ps. lyrics were originally mine, but ofcourse Lawrence has rewritten and added some parts( he always does :P)

well, if you don't like the song, at least you have something to read :P

FRIGHTS (lyrics Marco den Bakker/Lawrence Payne)

If I could tell you all about the cold…
& the scary sensation of growing old…alone…

If I could tell you all about the lies…
& the awkward experience of being tied…
…to a human being, gradually becoming strange…
& stranger…until I found out it was me…

…All this Time…All those Frights…
Stubborn me…still wanting my own way, again…

Now I just told you all about my frights…
&why I deny…oh, being denied!?…

Still wanting it revealed, right now…
Well, where’s the reason & where is the Truth?…
Why is this existence failing badly?…
…Oh, why?…

Why not believe there wasn’t anything between us?…
Why not believe nothing’s true?…
Why not believe there wasn’t anything between us?…
…Not a thing?…Is that your Truth?…

SOLO

Still wanting it revealed, right now…
Well, where’s the reason & where is the Truth?…
Why is this existence failing?…
..Please, tell me why?…

You tried to believe there wasn’t anything between us…
You tried to believe no one loved you…
You tried to believe there wasn’t anything between us…
…Not a thing?…that love could do…do for you...

The piano part does get a bit repetitive...Maybe a melody on top or something!
Get Ya

very very old, made with an Atari and a Fostex 4 tracker (tape, remember?:-))
my mic preamp was boosted maximum, so my breathing sounds like escaping steam...,all because i did the vocals very late-night in an apartment, so i couldn't scream/yell,which i otherwise would have done. Also the lyrics are merely improvised, so that's why some words are pronounced strange :D
But i liked it because of the ,,steamy,, atmosphere, so i remastered the stereotrack a little with Magix, and removed the tape-hiss also...
What u think???

made this right after installing Cubase (again since a long time), i dont have to much instruments yet, so i only used the a1, embracer and lm7 for drums
(any advice for some great virtual instruments would be nice)

great to see my pc handles it now because it never did, but now what?

i dont have clue anymore where to go with this piece, nore what to do to make it better
-the basedrum was ment to be rel. loud, but think i overdone that cause the rest is too soft now
-didn't think i'd need a bass line(?) cause off all the lo frequencies already there
-thinkin now that one chord isn't enough though

i guess the best idea was to upload and see what the Ampers think
all comments/ideas are welcome

Ghost Poem collab

‘Ghost Poem’ ; words by Writersblock, music/vox by MaxdB, inspired by PuppetXeno and Kings

The words upon the parchment, the letters on the page,
The monster in the basement, is locked inside the cage,

The cage is like a prizon, a cell within a cell,
The monster in the basement, is crying out for help,

A shadow of a shadow, a presence on the wall,
A scream becomes a whisper, when no-one hears the call,

The rain against the window, you're pressed against the floor,
A shadow of a footstep, creeps underneath the door,

The sound of muffled voices, the footsteps down the hall,
The ever lurking presence, The ear against the wall,

The thrashing of the thunder, that echoes in your ears,
The sound that makes you whimper, that plays upon your fears,

The dripping of some water, in the kitchen sink,
It isn't reassuring, it really makes you think,

The monster in the poem, that's written on the page,
That doesn't really murder, or fall into a rage

The words upon a poet, are words upon themselves,
They print themselves in hardback, they sit upon the shelves,

The fire in the corner, it creeps across the room,
And dances on the spines, of books foretelling doom,

The image of a portrait, hangs above the fire,
Most sinister of fathers, is nothing but a liar,

The frightening white of lightning, the flash across the sky,
The freshly painted message, that tells your time to die,

The window shatters inward, a rock lay on the floor,
The rain leaks through the ceiling, and seeps beneath the door,

The monster in your poem, is sharpening his knife,
The words etched in the paper, are soon to come to life,

Your heart is pounding quickly, your head is pounding slow,
The sound of echoed laughter, will follow where you go,

There is the sound of footsteps, a knocking at the door,
You fear the close attention, you don't want anymore,

The poem is completed, your stomach takes a turn,
The crumpled bit of paper, lay in the fire to burn.

If a poem is a poem, a song must be a song,
And if a song's a poem, then the poem's wrong,

I had to cut out some words to keep some space in the song

well this is my version... :)

Gloing under

riffs and structure by me, band did their share, was complete rocky at first but i felt for a 'ska' feel in it :P

GLOWING UNDER (lyrics by Lawrence Payne)

What is this?…what’s falling down?…
What’s all this falling underground?…
Don’t remember rolling over?…
Forgot to hide the ceiling…
This is where it all begins…
Remember to all come closer…
Forgot to mention meaning…
Tie me up or hall me in & see what’s glowing under…

All I judge is my being…Red…just as I am…
Close to finding a name…Running around the brain…
It’s bound to happen again…still the need to point & blame…
The Never-ending question: Why?…
A smudgy grudge on my being fudged…
Another hardened man?…here we go again…on&on&on…

To learn there’s lots more under…Our Universal Sea…
It’s hard understanding emotions inside you & me…

See what’s glowing under…Can’t you see what’s glowing under my skin?…
See what’s glowing under…Can’t you see what’s glowing under…within?…

Can’t be the same…Why the need to point or blame…
The Never-ending question: Why?…
All I judge is my being scared…just as I am…
Give the thing a name…Yes, here we go again!…

I’m not quite Mr. Bright…but you can see right…
Someone meant everything to me…
So, I didn’t mean that kind of everything to that someone…
See you sometime again then?…When?…
Well, I guess we’ll have to shine a little later then…

Hondeweer

this must sound weird to most people here, because its in Dutch (grinn)

'Hondeweer' means 'raining cats and dogs', i try to translate a bit to get the idea.., I ment it to be a sort of metaphoric

Tekst/Lyrics: Hondeweer

Hondenweer geen mens op straat, niemand in de goot /It's raining dogs, nobody on the street, nobody in the gutter ,
verwonderd kijk ik om me heen, alsof er iemand floot / surprised i look around, as if someone whistled
ik zoek naar een persoon ofzo, maar niemand geeft zich bloot / i search for anything alive, but nobody shows
het regent en het waait maar door, het lijkt wel watersnood / storm continues, rain still falls, seems a waterflood (hurricane? :p)
                       actually i sing:(vertwijfeld en verdeeld)
zachtjes roep ik hard om hulp, druipend en doorweekt / softly i am screaming, dripping and soaked
niemand die er omkijkt, al was er één geweest / nobody reacting, even if there had been one
sluipend langs de gevels van het begin van deze eeuw / sneeking by the buildings, from the start of this age
denk ik bij mezelf, mischien helpt het als ik heel hard schreeuw / I say to myself, maybe it helps, if i'd scream out loud..

verse:
FEEST! IK WIL FEEST, GEWOON HELEMAAL LOS, LOOS, EN VER UIT MIJN DAK,
SCHERP GEKLEED EN GOED GEMUTST, VOORZIEN VAN HUMOR OP HET JUISTE VLAK
/
PARTY! I WANT A PARTY, SIMPLY ENTIRELY COMPLETELY LOOSE, AND FAR OUT OF MY ROOF
SHARPLY DRESSED AND WITH THE RIGHT HAT, PROVIDE WITH HUMOR OF THE RIGHT KIND

turend door de ramen van het menselijk bestaan / watching through the windows of human existence
zie ik niets meer dan verveling, het lachen is hen vergaan / I see nothing more but trouble, laughing is far gone
men strekt zich uit en gaapt nog eens,”whats the news today” / people stretch themselves and yawn once more, "whats the news today"
eindelijk weer slapen gaan dat valt weer reuze mee / finally sleeping time, so that turns out well

blij verrast zie ik een lichtpuntje, in de duisternis / happily surprised I see a lightpoint in the dark
ik spoed me door de watervloed, hoop dat ik niks mis / I'm run through the massive rain, hope I'm not too late
ik staar door de ligusterhaag, zie mensen uit hun bol / I look beyond a liguster hedge, see people out of their head
dansend in het hemelwater, gewoon voor hun lol / dancing in the sky water, simply for their fun

verse: FEEST! Etc.

next couplet needs still to be added, its not in the song yet, still working on it:

(vrij van elke angst..?) (free of every fear..?)
nietsvermoedend, ongehinderd, door elke wetenschap / unsuspectingly, unhindered, by each science
frank en vrij en onbelemmerd, dans ik alles van me af / frank and free and unobstructed, I dance away my shit
op de muziek die maar niet stoppen wil, want het volk heeft de macht / on music that will never end, because people have the strength
om te beslissen of het dansen wil, midden in de nacht / to decide if they want to dance, in the middle of in the night

verse: FEEST! etc.

hope I ant breaking the rules, I don't intend to, to me this is a new song, but it has grown out of 2 earlier uploads here(Funky metal junkie/Reggea funkin metal)

anyway, we are talkin rock now, and i am kinda happy with it but:
i have a few points i míght wanna change..,
-i aint too sure of the quality of the vox
-in the breakdown i improvised rappin/spoken word thing which i failed so i pitched it up and now its more of a gimmick, hope it doesnt make the whole song a gimmick?
-the solo is still the first impro, does it work? i like it but there is a little(big) slip in it..

and well, the lyrics are a bunch of sentences together, although i owe the best words to my sister, so nice workin together

hope you'll enjoy, comments very welcome

MaxJam with TK

quite some time ago i got mail from TK he played some organ to this upload of mine:
http://forum.bandamp.com/Audio_Review/2307.html

I found it very complementing, but also very amazing how it works, even while there is not much room left in between all my guitar(noodle) parts( i recorded this in the time when i was 'learning soloing', i am still stucked in that fase ; )
i totally forgot about it, too busy with other things, haven't been around a while here, but now the world has the chance to hear this,

u can tell TK knows better what i am doing than i did, lol

enjoy :)

No doubt at all

warning for all those who dont want to listen to unfinished tracks!
I just like to have some reflection before i work further on this track, its in between an experiment and a noodle

its been through a lot of processing so i wonder what ppl think of the sound, i know it is strange, that was intended, but is it enjoyable?

there are words, but there is no meaning(yet) thats why they are this soft in the mix

it is based on some drum and base samples from Magix, programmed some synths in Magix, played some synths in cubase, and added my old guitar which is yet only in the try out phase too

Not Finished Yet

Prepare!! nothing Pink Floydish, no Rock at all!!

just something else

well.., the lyrics suck.., but i wanted to help a friend who written it ,and the singing too is quite not yet....bla bla and so on..
I played the spanish guitars and and did the vox(sorry for the bad experiments), all the rest I made with Reason 2.5
It's just in composing fase, a rough demo, but i could use some comment , just can't oversee it now, heard it growing too fast, heard it to much

It's supposed to be R&B-ish, all and all It was fun to do, especially the soloing, just an improvisation in a few takes.

I think it is over compressed somehow somewhere, and some piano notes are late
I guess..:-P

i changed a few thousand notes, cut out a few parts(one i regret), added clean guitars, and remixed.
+added some melody as Marino said,
+also reworked bass as Denis suggested, hope i did right, (tell me if i missed your point pls)

maybe it aint much of a song, but it is enjoyable as a piece of music i hope ?

Silhouettes

this is the last song made with my former band Undertow (later U-tow)
It's not fully finished recording, thats why in the end it gets a bit messy, as if it takes too long to reach the end.
One day maybe I finish that job.
Should I? tell me...
Or should I just forget about this song, tell me too!
But everytime i hear the intro I get excited..., later on i'm loosing enthiousasm.
Ofcourse i heard the slips in the mainsolo too, it wasn't a chromatic change :-)
If I'd play that solo again, I think I should get the wah-wah later on the solo back again.., don't you?

(Lyrics by Lawrence Payne, 2002)

* SILHOUETTES…

Going on & on…is all we’ve ever known…
Everyone knows the show…so famous yet unknown…
Whatever comes to mind…brings you the following lines…
Forever…Circular…Time…whatever the disguise…

Whatever needs a sign…or re-assuring inside…
Endeavour the peaceful guide…whatever comes to mind…
Mind’s showing where the shine will be glowing…

…& Going on & on…is all I’ve ever known…
Sometimes it all unfolds…
As contents knows container holds…
…What is known?…

How come the feeling don’t last for long?…
The precious moment turned to stone cold memory…
Oh, daily routine!…could your clouds agree…
…to do the Spacious-Silhouette-Pirouette way up high with me?…
Or would they float, wave goodbye, in an airy matter?…

…Out of the blue the wind whispers to you…
…Shine like a Sun…
…Shine like a Sun…
…Shine like a Sun/Son…

A song that didnt make it through the selection at last, because it wasn't good enough we thought

i never recorded it properly myself, so this is a live recording of the first live gig with at that time(1999) U-Tow's newest and final vocalist : Lawrence

Outside on the back of a truck, very cold and windy..
I remember very well!

song and lyrics by me mainly, but tnx to Rodney for his great beats!

Substance

just another song from my old band U-tow
recorded and mixed by me and my digital mixer
I've mainly written the song too , fun to know the song is mostly about 3 chords?
the big (tap)solo is done by the other guitarist (tnx Hugo)
Naturally recorded in the barn of a weed-greenhouse in Holland
hope you enjoy

SUBSTANCE (lyrics: Rodney/me/Lawrence)

Day in day out…always seems the same thing…
No matter what you try to do, perhaps letting go might give you a clue…
There’s nothing wrong in going down on your knees…
To please another’s hungry needs…
Can’t thank you enough for the strength to go on…

I’ve seen your substance…I’ve seen your graceful shining light…
Help me out of my maze to exit…
Should be round here somewhere…just can’t reach it yet…

Can’t be with any of you…No confrontation or instant feelings…
Please, I’m already blue!…so, why go on?…
There must be more than suffering or souls bleeding!?…
I need to give life some substance or I’ll…
…sink further in this pattern of self-denial…
It’s about Time to come outside…

Into the substance…Into your graceful shining light…
Help me out of my maze to your exit…
Growing numb somehow…just can’t grasp it yet…
                                      SOLO: HUGO
Why am I someone who needs substance to keep the peace in me?…
Going for that state to be…A winding road with destiny…
I can feel it here somewhere inside of me…
I know the substance somehow…I just can’t picture it yet!?…
                                      SOLO: MARCO
Wish I was someone, someone needed your substance to keep…
…A clear head indeed…

Going down on my knees to please you & feed your hungry needs…
Thank you for the strength to go on…I’m really hopeless on my own…

Hoping for substance…Hoping for your graceful shining light…
Help me out of my maze to your exit…
Should be round here somehow?…I just can’t reach it yet…

Supermotto

the more serious but never finished version(band broke up), just to make things complete,
i guess this is really the last U-Tow song from my archive

SUPER-MOTTO (Lawrence Payne(singer)/U-Tow)

Still struggling with those problem-area’s?…
Hey, I tell ya!…we got the cure…
All you do is buy a pretty story…
Making you feel so all brand new…

Do you believe in motto’s?…Everyday you’ll be amazed…
Another Super-motto? What’s this? What’s it? What’s hip? What’s shit today?…
It’s not you…It’s not you…

Another introduction…”How to avoid a Liposuction?”…
You tried everything & you didn’t expect much, but believe me…
…this stuff it really works!…(It’s Amazing!!!)

…& there’s your motto again!…So comfortable & warm, feels like a friend…
(I really love her!)Another Super-model…working on the old lust…Yes, here comes greed again!…

                                              SOLO: MARCO

Not one, not two, but THREE for the price of one…Just order NOW!!!…
It’s fat-reducing, mental-boosting, boob-tightening…So exciting!!!…

SAVE 1,000’s of $’s a year, if not a month!!!…
Yes, you heard right! You’re not dreaming, it’s true!!!…let me pinch ya!!!…
Stay tuned to this station, our panel of celebrities will happily demonstrate…
..how it works to donate & feel great instantly!!!…
So, take control of your life!…Take control of your body, Silly!!!…
Learn to improve yourself & your environment in style…ALL at the same time!!!…
How many more guarantees do you need???…OK! Before we go…
…DIAL!…or should I say: PRESS!…
…that beautiful Mobile for instant civil ness!!!…

                                               SOLO: HUGO

It’s not you!…
It’s not you!…
It’s not true!…
Like you at all!…
It’s not you!…

So, there’s little conversation… going on between you & the Tube…
& whatever compensation…You still seem to feel so blue…

…& there’s a motto again!…
So, comfortable & warm!…
Another Super-motto!…
Everyday you’ll be amazed!…
Another Super-motto!?…
